REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, plus Conservation and Sustainable Forest Management) is one of the most recognized and impactful categories of carbon credits globally. It originated within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), first introduced at COP 11 in Montreal (2005) to address emissions from deforestation, which account for approximately 10-15% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
